We are there for your child and you

Our work has one clear focus: your child's individual needs. In order for us to support your child's development in the best possible way, we employ people with different educational training backgrounds. They all attend regular further training courses, which enable them to bring new ideas and proposals to their daily work - ideas that will also benefit your child!

Dawn Akerman N.N.E.B

Main Responsibility

To  ensure a high level of care and education for the children in the nursery.

I am a qualified N.N.E.B (Nursery Nurse) focusing on child development aged birth – 7 years. I qualified in 1985 and started work in the private sector as a childrens nanny. After 12 years and having my own children I decided to return to work with children in 2000. I began work in a special needs school as a specilaist teaching assistant.

I was at the special school for 12 years working with pupils aged between 3 and 19 years. I have been involved Early Years Foundation Stage and Primary mainly. I have had many roles within the school, my last role was working in class supporting a large group of pupils ranging from 7 – 9 years with various needs. We specialise in sensory activities within the class. I was responsible for the care of a PMLD pupil with very complex needs.

We use Makaton sign language and I have achieved level two (certificated). I have also attended a two day PECS course for children who find it difficult to communicate verbally and need to use pictures in exchange for things. Last year I completed a ELKLAN course on Communication for children with complex needs, for which I have gained a certificate.
